Last night when I was reading The Shack, I came across a part that literally slapped me across the face. I don't want to ruin the book for you, but there is a part of the book where the main character is having a conversation with Jesus.
Jesus asks, "do you think humans were designed to live in the present or the past or the future?"
This is where the wheels began turning in my head.
Mack responds, "I think the most obvious answer is that we were designed to live in the present."
Ever since we sold our house, and probably even before that, everything was about the future. There was a constant countdown for...
* when the house would be built
* when the kids would be old enough to do something
* when the house would sell
* when something would occur
* when the week was through
You name it and I had a countdown for it.
The more I pondered this conversation between Mack and Jesus, the more it saddened me. And even though, Mack had been dwelling in the past and I had been dwelling in the future, it all relates.
So starting today, I am living in the present. Remembering to enjoy my kids at the stage they are in, and remembering that it won't be forever and someday I will miss this stage. Remembering that soon enough we will be in our new home, and that even though we are living temporarily somewhere, I still have to liveand enjoy life, not just survive and exist until moving happens.
The waiting game is a miserable game to play, and let me tell you that I was definitely winning. But not anymore.

Hi Kim,
It's me again! I read The Shack about three months ago and couldn't put it down. I agree with your post and the book was always challenging me in different ways. I would love to read it again and do a bible study with some friends. What do you think?
When I was reading it --I would get to a really deep part and want to converse with someone else.
Good post!
love,
Cori
Ok, I HAVE to get that book! I love what you wrote Kim, I too want to live in the present and enjoy the moment. Great post!
Man, Kim you've been busy on the blog front. So sorry I've missed out. I did read that book, and what a great reminder. I often do that to. Can't wait until summer. Then can't wait till school starts. Can't wait...blah blah blah. Good good reminder.
Hi Kim,
I met you a couple Saturdays ago at breakfast...I'm Jon's wife? Anyway, I just found your blog through Jamie's and I really enjoyed this post. I am also reading The Shack and can absolutely relate. Anyway, hope all is going well with your new house. I will be checking frequently to see how it progresses!
